Soon 'Star Trek-style' glasses that will allow 'blind to see'

London, Aug 04 (ANI): New 'Star Trek-style' smart glasses have been recently created that could help blind people to see.
The spectacles are already being developed for a mass market by the Royal National Institute of Blind People, who won a public vote in the Google Impact Challenge Awards, joining another three winners receiving funding of 500,000 pounds each, the Daily Express reported.

It has been estimated that 150,000 people in the UK and about 15 million worldwide would benefit from the spectacles which echo the sci-fi Visor of Star Trek character Geordi LaForge, played by actor Levar Burton.
It would have a spectacle-mounted 3D camera that would enhance images of nearby shapes and objects. It would highlight and outline them clearly on the inside of small transparent displays that are part of the spectacle lenses.
The spectacles could be available in the shops by 2016. (ANI)
