LG releases fix for G Watch to prevent corrosion

LG's G Watch is due to arrive this summer

LG has issued a software update to its G Watch to prevent corrosion, following multiple complaints from early wearers.

According to The Verge, the problem can leave slight discolouration to the connectors, but in extreme cases some have claimed that their device has stopped charging and even irritated skin.

"Recently, it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue build-up on the terminal pins located on the back," the company told customers.

"While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock.

"The maintenance release will be rolled out automatically over-the-air to all G Watch owners. We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

LG G Watch powered by Android Wear

The LG G Watch is among the first smartwatches to feature Google's operating system for wearables, along with Motorola's Moto 360.

Voice controls, reminders, fitness monitoring, suggestions and mapping are included as part of the operating system, as well as Google Now and multi-screen functionality.

The LG G Watch is the fourth device that the South Korean company has made in collaboration with Google, following the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition
